Last month I got a bonus from work, so part of that money I decided that I would put towards one of the more expensive figures. After a bit of debate in my mind and some thought, I decided to purchase a Blue Snaggletooth. After some unsuccessful bids on some eBay auctions, I finally won an auction for this figure. It cost me around $130 for this figure, which I feel is a fair price, given what these go for. The condition is decent with a bit of paint wear on his boots that seem typical, and also a spots on his hands and head. Joints are stiff and the body looks ok with a bit of discoloration. This is not a figure I have ever owned, it came in a a exclusive Sears Cantina Adventure set in 1978, and never on a card. They later released a Snaggletooth on a card, which was more accurate to the movie, which was shorter, with a red suit and different feet.

Last week at the Edmonton Toy and Collectible show I picked up the Sideshow 1/6 scale Commander Gree. I had my eye on this one for awhile since I have a minor focus on Commander Gree items. I have to say I am very impressed. He comes with a very articulated body allowing to be posed in many different positions. Also a wide assortment of hands and 3 different weapons. The details on the Armour looks great as well, as I always found him one of the more interesting clones to looks at. I got a good price on this as well, which made acquiring him all the more sweet.

I got this at a local toy show instead of eBay and cost me $15. This was one that I did own when I was a kid, but I played with him quite a bit and in the end painted him with pink nail polish. I still have that figure, but is in no condition to display and missing the cape and weapon. The figure I picked up at the toy show is in great shape, very pleased with the condition of him.

This is not one I have ever owned when I was a kid, so new to me. This one is not in the greatest of shape as it has some pink highlighter on the side of it’s head and can see some other marking from pens on it. So this will be a candidate for me to upgrade at some point.

For February, I won another auction on eBay, this time for the Hoth Rebel Soldier from the Empire Strikes Back. I won this figure on eBay for the low price of a $1.80 and shipping of $4.00, so not a big investment. This figure came in reasonable shape, but a little dirty. The joints and paint are alright on it, but I will take some time at some point to clean him up a bit better. I owned this one when I was a kid, and recall playing with him a lot, and I actually had a few. Funny story, I am almost embarrassed to admit, but I always thought he was Luke in Hoth gear, and really only realized he was not when I was researching vintage figures at the start of the year that I needed. This figure was released in 1980 as part of the Empire Strikes Back wave.

To start off the year, the first vintage figure I acquired was the Emperor. Not high on my list, but was on the list as a figure I did not have. I found this one on eBay, and it came in a Kenner Baggie. I am not sure if he was ever removed from the baggie or not, but he was in pretty good condition with very stiff joints, so did not see much play. This figure was originally released in 1983 in the Return of the Jedi waves. It comes with a cane, just like the Emperor had in the movie. This one did not cost me to much, around 10 dollars shipped to Canada from the US. I never owned one of these as a child, as by the time Return of the Jedi was released, as I had grown out of the toys at that time, I have since grown back into toys . He will be a bit special to me as he marks my re commitment to my Star Wars loose vintage collection and a 2012 resolution.

Over the past few years, one of the goals for collecting that I have, is to get a complete loose Star Wars vintage collection. In 2012 I decided to finally commit myself to it, after a few years of half heartily attempting it. I will try and pace myself at a figure a month, and hope to get it completed in the next few years. As I go along I will post the figures I have acquired and a few notes about the figure or my hunt in general. I have about 30 figures right now, so I have a long journey ahead of me to reach the finish line of the 92 basic figures released. I will stick mostly to the standard figures released, and not get into any variants except in a few cases. So this should be a lot of fun as I pursue this long time goal.

Last week I got this set in the mail, Star Wars Deluxe Series 4 Kubricks, and I was really looking forward to these. This set came with the a build up figure of the Imperial Probe Droid, which is my favorite Probe Droid I have ever bought, as the detailing on it is great. The other thing that really excited me was the vintage styling of some of the figures in the set, especially the Vader and the Tie Fighter Pilot. The Imperial Dignitary is also another favorite of mine.

A friend of mine recently went on a trip to Disney World in Florida. I asked him well at the park, if he could look for a Disney exclusive figure for me, R2-MK Astromech. Since I have a focus on 3 3/4 inch Astromechs, I felt that this would be a figure that I should have in my collection. It comes bundled with a Jedi Mickey as well, which is cool, but what I really wanted was that Astromech. Happily he was able to find the figure for me, and I can now add it to my collection

Just recently Medicom released a new series of Star Wars Kubricks, DX3. This series is based of A New Hope, Tatooine planet. This series like the previous two deluxe series, allows you to build a additional piece out of the extra pieces shipped with each figure. The piece in this set was Luke’s Landspeeder. Some of the figures in this set have been released before, so to differentiate them, they are either come in a Kenner vintage styling, or they have different detailing on them. Probably my favorite figure in this set is the Garindan, since he is completely new. I am not sure how I really feel about this set on a whole and the DX series, as part of me feels they are going over the same figures they had in the past, but I like the nod to the past with the vintage representation on some. I will do a future podcast on these sets.
